Abstract
This article examines the development of the historical novel through the literary works of Walter Scott. The research analyzes Scott’s artistic interpretation of historical events, the relationship between historical reality and fiction, his poetic principles in portraying national history, and his contribution to the evolution of the historical novel in world literature. Furthermore, the study explores the combination of Romanticism and Realism in Scott’s novels as well as the distinctive features of his historical and fictional characters. The findings indicate that Walter Scott established the theoretical and artistic foundations of the modern historical novel.Keywords
