Abstract
The article examines the history of the formation of earthquake-resistant architecture in Uzbekistan in 1899–1915, at the origins of which were the engineering methods of G. M. Svarichevsky (1868–1936). Based on previously unpublished documents from the personal collection of G. M. Svarichevsky (NAUz, Fund 2242), the paper traces the trajectory from the preliminary standards established after the 1902 Andijan earthquake to the development of an authorial seismic protection concept. Three key stages are identified in the evolution of his method: testing reinforced concrete in bridge construction, introducing external buttresses into civil architecture (Mariinsky School, 1910), and the terminological formalization of the "wooden ceiling-buttress" technique in the project for a girls' gymnasium (1915). It is established that Svarichevsky's practical experience represents a unique example of transitioning from empirical solutions to a systematic engineering theory. The research findings introduce new archival sources into academic circulation and expand current understanding of regional building culture history and heritage conservation methods in Uzbekistan. Keywords
