Mazkur maqolada tarixiy roman janrining shakllanishi va taraqqiyot bosqichlari Walter Scott ijodi misolida ilmiy jihatdan tahlil qilinadi. Tadqiqotda yozuvchining tarixiy voqealarni badiiy talqin etish usullari, tarixiy haqiqat va badiiy to‘qima uyg‘unligi, milliy tarixni ifodalashdagi poetik tamoyillari hamda uning jahon adabiyotida tarixiy roman janri rivojiga qo‘shgan hissasi yoritiladi. Shuningdek, Scott romanlarida romantizm va realizm elementlarining uyg‘unlashuvi, tarixiy shaxslar va badiiy obrazlar tizimining o‘ziga xosligi ham tahlil qilinadi.
