DESIGNING AN INTEGRATED METHODOLOGICAL SYSTEM OF EXERCISES BASED ON AUTHENTIC RESOURCES

Abstract

The growing importance of communicative competence in foreign language education has shifted pedagogical attention toward the development of lexical competence through authentic materials. Lexical competence serves as the foundation for effective communication, enabling learners to comprehend and produce meaningful discourse in real-life contexts. Despite numerous studies emphasizing vocabulary acquisition, relatively little attention has been devoted to designing an integrated methodological system of exercises based on authentic resources. This study aims to develop and scientifically substantiate a methodological system of exercises designed to improve learners' lexical competence through authentic materials. The research employs theoretical analysis, comparative analysis, systematization of pedagogical approaches, communicative language teaching principles, cognitive linguistic theory, and task-based language learning methodology. Authentic materials—including newspapers, podcasts, interviews, academic lectures, documentaries, advertisements, blogs, and social media texts—were selected according to linguistic, methodological, cultural, and psychological criteria. The proposed system consists of four interconnected stages: receptive, receptive-productive, productive, and creative-integrative. Each stage contains specific exercise types that gradually develop vocabulary recognition, contextual interpretation, semantic flexibility, collocational competence, pragmatic awareness, and autonomous vocabulary acquisition strategies. The findings indicate that authentic materials significantly contribute to lexical competence by exposing learners to natural lexical patterns, collocations, phraseological units, discourse markers, and culturally embedded vocabulary. Furthermore, the exercise system promotes higher learner motivation, intercultural awareness, lexical retention, and communicative fluency.
